Frequently Asked Questions

What happens during a Financial Clarity Call?

A Financial Clarity Call is a complimentary 20-minute conversation designed to help us understand your business, your bookkeeping challenges, and what you want to accomplish.

We’ll discuss potential solutions, determine whether Bookkeeping Made Simple is a good fit for your needs, and identify possible next steps. When appropriate, we’ll assess the scope of work and prepare a proposal.

What information do you need from a new bookkeeping client?

The specific information depends on your business and the condition of your accounting records.

We typically need access to your QuickBooks Online account, bank and credit card statements, existing financial reports, and information about items such as loans, payroll, accounts receivable, and accounts payable.

How quickly can a new client get started?

Once the engagement agreement is signed, onboarding is completed, and the necessary records and access have been provided, we can schedule the work.

Timing depends on our current workload and whether cleanup or catch-up work is required. We establish realistic expectations during onboarding rather than promising the same turnaround time for every business.

Do you work with businesses nationwide?

Yes. Bookkeeping Made Simple is headquartered in Pleasant Grove, Utah, but serves businesses throughout the United States.

Our services are delivered remotely using QuickBooks Online, secure document sharing, email, and virtual meetings, so clients do not need to be located in Utah.

What types of businesses do you work with?

We primarily work with owner-operated small businesses, including service-based businesses, professional firms, contractors, and e-commerce businesses.

Many of our clients are established businesses that have outgrown DIY bookkeeping and need reliable financial information to manage operations, evaluate profitability, and make informed decisions.

What accounting software do you use?

Bookkeeping Made Simple works exclusively with QuickBooks Online for ongoing bookkeeping engagements.

Can you help if my bookkeeping is behind or inaccurate?

Yes. Cleanup and catch-up bookkeeping are core services.

We assess the existing records, identify discrepancies, reconstruct missing transactions when necessary, reconcile accounts, and correct inaccuracies. The goal is to establish reliable financial records and, when appropriate, transition the business into ongoing bookkeeping.

Cleanup projects are priced according to the complexity of the records and the amount of work required.

Do I need to become an ongoing bookkeeping client to get cleanup services?

Not necessarily. Cleanup services are available to businesses that need historical records corrected or brought up to date, even if they are not currently ongoing bookkeeping clients.

How do you communicate with clients?

We primarily communicate through email and scheduled meetings during regular business hours, Monday through Friday.

Our team reaches out when information or clarification is needed, and clients can contact us with questions. We may also use recorded video explanations when they are helpful.

How often will I receive financial reports?

Ongoing bookkeeping clients receive monthly financial reports and quarterly financial check-ins.

Business Advisory and Fractional CFO clients receive more comprehensive monthly financial reviews designed to help them understand and use their financial information.

When does a business need Business Advisory or Fractional CFO support?

Business Advisory or Fractional CFO support may be appropriate when a business owner needs more than accurate financial statements.

Common situations include cash flow challenges, declining profit margins, pricing decisions, budgeting, expansion planning, hiring decisions, or trying to understand why increasing revenue is not producing more available cash.

Our advisory services help business owners interpret their financial information and use it to make better strategic and operational decisions.

What is the difference between bookkeeping and financial advisory?

Bookkeeping focuses on maintaining accurate and reliable financial records.

Financial advisory goes further by helping business owners interpret those numbers and use them to make decisions involving cash flow, profitability, pricing, hiring, budgeting, growth, and other financial priorities.

Do you offer payroll services?

Yes. Payroll services are available exclusively to ongoing bookkeeping clients of Bookkeeping Made Simple.

We evaluate each client’s payroll needs and determine the appropriate level of support based on the business and its payroll requirements.

Do you offer payroll services without bookkeeping?

No. Bookkeeping Made Simple does not offer standalone payroll services.

Payroll support is available exclusively to our ongoing bookkeeping clients. If a business needs payroll services but does not need ongoing bookkeeping from us, we are happy to refer them to a dedicated payroll provider.

Can you support payroll for businesses with employees in multiple states?

We evaluate each client’s payroll requirements, including multistate considerations, and determine whether we can appropriately support their needs.

When necessary, we coordinate with appropriate payroll providers to help address multistate payroll requirements.

Do you offer tax preparation services?

Yes, but tax preparation is available to existing Bookkeeping Made Simple bookkeeping clients rather than as a standalone service.

What makes Bookkeeping Made Simple different?

We combine accounting expertise, practical business knowledge, and personalized service.

Our work goes beyond categorizing transactions and generating reports. We focus on accuracy, understanding the financial position of the business, identifying potential problems, and helping business owners make informed decisions.

Our goal is to provide financial clarity and give business owners confidence in the numbers they use to run their companies.
